Rajasthan Emporium owner Rajesh Bantia inherited the business from his father and great grandfathers. The idea of selling Rajasthani Handicrafts in south India and helping artisans from Rajasthan was a successful business idea as an offline store. However, Rajesh’s son Varun, identified the potential of online selling and aimed at selling their products across the country, overcoming the barriers of an offline shop. Success did not come easy, but for Varun it was all worth it.
"Rajasthan Emporium and Handicrafts started in the year 1976. This business is a three generations old business. My grandfather had started this business. The sole intention to start Rajasthan Emporium and Handicrafts was to promote the arts and crafts of Rajasthan to the people of South India. Since, Bangalore is a well-known city, a prominent city of South India, my grandfather decided to set up the store right in the center of Bangalore. We source most of our products from Jodhpur, Jaipur, Udaipur, these major hubs where artisans are there, where artisans are living. We actually tour these places twice a year or thrice a year just to meet them or just to understand what kind of new products are coming up and how can we develop new products. I actually was studying in Glasgow and I saw people buying online. We knew that there was potential, but when giants like Amazon came our way, we knew that we had to ride on their success and build our story. That’s when Amazon approached us to list our products on their platform.
We did not have any second thoughts about it and we listed our products on Amazon. They were really helpful. I mean from the product selection to the product listing, to cataloguing, everything, they did everything for us. With their help we have reached where we are today. Initially the main challenges that we were facing was with packaging and logistics since it was a new thing for us we were not aware how the packaging should be done. We learnt from our mistakes. Today, we would say, we are almost 98% there, 98% perfect orders is what we are achieving right now. With Amazon’s help we have reached customers not only is South India but all over India. The response of selling online has been tremendous and I would say that Amazon has transformed our business and our lives in a big way."
